As summer gradually comes to an end, I’ve found myself daydreaming about how I would have loved to spend my vacation this year. Ideally, I imagined myself lounging by the clear blue waters of the Maldives, soaking up the sun, and exploring new horizons outside of the UK. The idea of unwinding on a tropical beach, with nothing but the sound of the waves and a good book in hand, was my perfect escape.

But as I reflect on this summer, I quickly realize there are so many things I am grateful for, even without that dream trip. I’ve spent this summer creating beautiful memories right here at home, especially with my son. One of the highlights has been learning how to swim, a skill I’ve wanted to master for years. It’s been incredibly fulfilling to finally take the plunge and conquer this fear.

While I might not have traveled to exotic locations or experienced new cultures this summer, I’ve cherished every moment spent with my family. Whether it’s enjoying sunny weekends in the park, walking around the neighbourhood, visiting museums, attending birthday parties, having BBQs, or simply spending quality time together, I’ve realized that the true essence of a perfect summer isn’t about where you go, but who you’re with and the joy you find in the simple things.

Although this summer may not have unfolded as I initially imagined, it’s been filled with unexpected blessings and wonderful moments that I wouldn’t trade for anything. There’s still time to plan for future adventures, and who knows, maybe we’ll end up somewhere exciting for the Christmas holidays!
